Zanzibar

The historic island of Zanzibar is something you will have to see sooner or later. This was in many years the home of the Sultan of Oman and the main island was the center of all slavetrade from East Africa. Today Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, but you still need to show your passport again after the two hour hydrofoil-ride from Dar Es Salaam, which is often pretty rough. Zanzibar really IS something different which it's spicy mix of African and Arab culture. The old Stone Town is one big Arabic labyrinth.
