Malaika

Kizingo Arts TroupeIs it possible to make a film with a 'Kenyan' subject without including the popular song 'Malaika'? Probably not!

The subject of 'Malaika' is also the subject of 'Low Tide' - so here it is. This special version from the end credits of 'Low Tide' is arranged and performed by Kizingo Arts Troupe of Mombasa.

Audio Listen to 'Malaika' Duration 2.45, approx 644kb

The Kenyan musician Fadhili William was the first to put Malaika on record back in the 50s and he is probably also the author of the song. The song has been recorded by many other artists. Angel, I love you my angel
Angel, I love you my angel
What can I do, my love
I don't have any money
I would have married you my angel
I don't have any money
I would have married you my angel

Money is troubling my heart
Money is troubling my heart
What can I do, my love
I can't take care of you
I would have married you my angel
I don't have any money
I would have married you my angel

Little bird, I dream about you little bird
Little bird, I dream about you little bird
What can I do, my angel
I don't have any money
I would have married you my angel
I don't have any money
I would have married you my angel
